Mashups

I recently read an article about making money from “mashups”. If you haven’t been to Cashtactics.netbefore you should really check out the site. There’s some pretty good info on in, including the article I mentioned about mashups.

So, what is a “mashup”? I’m sure some people have different ideas for what really makes up a mashup site, but in the simpliest terms a mashup is a site that presents information from multiple sources in a way that creates new value and benefit to the user. An easy to understand example is a site that displays information on a map. The map could be coming from Google or Microsoft, while the information being displayed could come from another source.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how I could put the mashup concept to work. My idea is to pull information from different places to give shoppers a better experience. Basically help people that are shopping online for certain items be able to do comparison shopping and find the best price. It’s not necessarily a unique concept, but I do think it is something that can generate a reasonable amount of traffic that I can convert into some money…which is ultimately all I’m really trying to do!
